SR. AUTOMATION AND DESIGN ENGINEER - JACKSONVILLE,FL
Purpose of Position

You will be responsible for engineering, development, documentation, programming, and technical support of several key standard (called “Integrated”) products that are mass produced. Product designs include components like I/O devices, PLCs, HMIs, transformers, protective elements, surge arrestors, metering systems, in addition to core components like current carrying conductors and circuit breakers/fuses. This position is based in our manufacturing plants in Jacksonville, FL, where you will collaborate with other departments ensure the engineered designs are implemented accurately. Occasional travel to other IEM plants or client sites may be necessary to support product launches and troubleshooting and should not exceed 30% on average.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the initial design of new distribution and control products 
  • Generate, evaluate, test, and maintain various automation programs, either developed from scratch or received from the client
  • Drive continuous improvement of areas like design, automation testing, data gathering, etc via novel programming solutions
  • Work with clients to optimize and improve the IEM-implementation of their designs
  • Author technical content about the use of the system and equipment (published by technical writers)
  • Support both external (client, end user) and internal (production, field service) stakeholders with the regular operation of equipment and any trouble-shooting, as required.
  • Communicate with other engineering disciplines and trades workmen.

Competencies: 

  • An understanding of communications network architectures such as TCP/IP and Modbus
  • Demonstrated competency in applicable programming languages (VBA, C/C++, Python, PLC/ladder logic, protective relays) and communication protocols and network architectures (RS-232, RS-485, TCP/IP and Modbus).
  • Competency with CAD software (AutoCAD preferred) and Microsoft Office products
  • Must be a team player with strong verbal/written communication skills and self-motivated with an ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, precise attention to detail, and ability to multitask are essential skills for success in this role
  • A positive attitude, pride in workmanship, and working well within a team are traits highly valued

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university or 5+ years in an engineering role
  • Intimate knowledge of applicable UL, CSA, CEC, NEC, ANSI standards related to the above Strong verbal and written communication skills regarding both technical and non-technical topics
  • Experience with programming, preferably in an industrial setting related to PLC’s, remote I/O devices, and HMIs
  • Familiarity with the NRTL evaluation and certification processes an asset
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments and a mechanical aptitude an asset
