SR. APPLICATIONS ENGINEER - JACKSONVILLE,FL/ US FLEXIBLE
Purpose of Position
The role of the Applications Engineer is to provide technical support and product solutions to the Major Internal Stakeholders within Sales, Engineering, Operations and field service teams
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Essential Functions:
- Provide product solutions, generally in the form of preliminary layout drawings, bills of material, or sequence of operations as part of a high-level review of project plans and specifications
- Provide technical input and detailed reviews on project specifications and customer plans as they relate to IEM product offerings
- Participate in site surveys as needed to determine project feasibility and scope
- Upon request, review customer orders before hand-off to design engineering to ensure that order entry is correct and that the provided information is complete
- When required, attend customer meetings with sales or with external subject matter experts to help resolve product offering or compliance issues.
- Analyze perceived product or component failures; participate in multifunctional root cause analysis, authoring technical content and expertise in 8D or Corrective Action Reports
- Collaborate with other engineering teams as needed within IEM to provide solutions
- Provide technical feedback on application guides, customer guide specifications, material standards and engineering tools prior to release.
- Provide training on technical topics as needed
- Provide support in determining compliance to industry and utility standards as applicable to the product offering
- When published product literature doesn’t provide clear guidance or whenever there is gray area, provide a clear and understandable direction to internal stakeholders.
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise on IEM products in various applications.
Competencies:
- Possess knowledge and hands on working experience with LV and/or MV power distribution equipment such as panelboards, switchboards, switchgear, industrial control panels, and transfer switches up to 38kV
- Familiar with single line/three line diagrams and electrical schematics for power distribution equipment
- Thorough understanding of integration between power distribution equipment and sources of power, including interconnections and communications
- Thorough understanding of industry standards such as NEC, UL, CSA, IEEE/ANSI, and utility electric service requirements
- Problem solving
- Ability to troubleshoot engineering design or functional issues and brainstorm solutions
- Must be detail oriented in providing solutions and following processes
- Excellent in both oral and written communications and have the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
- Demonstrate the willingness to continuously improve and learn
Education and Experience:
- Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar field, and possess at least 5 years of working experience in switchboards, switchgear, panelboards or industrial control panels
- Possess a strong background in power distribution and/or industrial control systems
- Familiarity in design tools such as AutoCAD is preferred
- Experience in manufacturing power distribution equipment is a plus
- Experience in industrial automation such as Allen Bradley and GE PLC’s, HMI’s and protective relays is a plus
