MECHANICAL PROGRAM MANAGER - JACKSONVILLE,FL
Purpose of Position

The Mechanical Program Manager is responsible for providing strategic and program management support to the Mechanical Engineering Department. This role ensures that all design and fabrication tasks and projects for low and medium voltage switchboards and panel boards are completed on time and to the highest quality standards. In addition to overseeing project execution, the Mechanical Program Manager will execute department strategic initiatives and help drive a culture of continuous improvement within the department.

 

Essential Functions: 

Project and Workflow Management:

  • Manage Task Workflow: Monitor and manage the workflow of design and fabrication tasks, ensuring timely completion and addressing any bottlenecks.
  • Scheduling and Coordination: Coordinate schedules, meetings, and deadlines for the engineering team to ensure all projects are on track.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project statuses, updates, and outcomes. Generate regular reports to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Resource Allocation: Assist in the allocation of resources, including personnel and materials, to optimize departmental efficiency.

Strategic Initiatives and Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to streamline operations and reduce waste, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with various stakeholders, including other departments and external partners, to align strategic initiatives with overall business objectives.
  • Gather and encourage input from team members that lead to day-to-day time savings and process improvements.

Program Management:

  • Project Planning: Develop and manage project plans, including defining project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful project completion.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques. Measure project progress against key performance indicators.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work collaboratively with program managers from other departments to ensure alignment of projects and initiatives across the organization.

Leadership and Mentoring:

  • Promote Continuous Improvement Culture: Instill a culture of continuous improvement within the team by encouraging innovative thinking and problem-solving.
  • Team Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise within the team to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

 

Organizational Relationship: 

  • Reports To: Mechanical Design Director
  • Works With: Mechanical Design Managers, Catalog Manager (oversees CAD systems), and Program Managers from other departments


Competencies: 

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of mechanical design processes. Specific knowledge in panel boards is not necessary, but experience with sheet metal fabrication is a plus (not required).
  • Program Management: Proven experience in program management, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated experience in driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information and engage with stakeholders at all levels.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Experience: Previous experience in an administrative or program management role within a mechanical engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Program Management, or a related field.
  • Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) or similar certification.

The Mechanical Program Manager must be adept at problem-solving and able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
