JUNIOR QUALITY CONTROL ENGINEER (ENGINEERED PRODUCT) - SURREY, BC
Purpose of Position

The ideal candidate is able to stay organized and maintain their attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Good computer skills are also necessary, as they will have to work with an ERP system and Microsoft Office programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Able to work at Surrey and Port Coquitlam Locations.
  • Understand and apply electrical safety measures and electric hazard approach limits as these apply to the equipment and tools used in the performance of the work activities. Ensure these measures protect all personnel working on or in the vicinity while the work is being undertake. 
  • Must apply IEM Electrical safety policies and protocols which meet WorkSafe BC standards and approvals.
  • Read, understand and apply electrical codes and standards for electrical equipment as these pertaining to IEM built products. Examples are Creepage and Clearance of Electrical circuits, Grounding and Bonding, conductor sizing and, overcurrent protection, etc…
  • Review of electrical components, determine proper certification/listing marks are applied and confirmation of the device meeting the required specifications needed for the circuit in which it will be employed using product specific data sheets and manuals.
  • Reading and understand electrical schematics for the purpose of building, testing or troubleshooting electrical controls and power circuits
  • Troubleshoot to determine production or design errors in electrical circuit logic
  • Mount electrical components including circuit breakers, switches, transformers, relays, contactors, terminals, input/output devices and/or all other related switchgear electrical devices.
  • Able to wire controls as it relates to electrical controls, panelboards and switchgear
  • Fully knowledgeable in the proper use of tools necessary for drilling, tapping, punching and mounting components in electrical controls, panels and switchgear
  • Create simulation test logic using relays, PLCs and the such to provide the necessary external logic to test product control schemes when necessary.
  • Maintain records of all personal and company owned test equipment and ensuring these are within Certification usage date, not expired and remains within the permissible Instrument Accuracy Limits at all times of use (tool must be compared to device of known accuracy as benchmark)
  • Proper use of electrical test tools and apparatus for the purpose of testing electrical controls and power distribution equipment
  • Use of HV test equipment (Dielectric Strength, Megger, etc.) to ensure the product under test meets and passes production line tests mandated within the certification files and by the applicable standards of the build
  • Responsible for timely completion of Test Records and storage of these to IEM Server data base (Worknet)
  • Responsible for taking and storage of evidentiary photos to IEM Worknet for future reference if required.  All photos must be clear, photos of nameplates warning labels, rating label and components must be able to read the text to determine validity.
  • Meeting production schedules while maintaining IEM’s strictest quality standards
  • Testing of LV Panelboards, LV Switchboards and LV & MV Switchgear Assemblies
  • Ability to train personnel on the aforementioned points
  • Provide Tail Gate sessions when required for Test and Production personnel for awareness of issues determined in testing as corrective or preventative measures
  • Assist in day to day operations within the department as required at the direction of the department group leader or QC Manager
  • When required travel to job site to preform start-up, commissioning or problem troubleshooting and effect repairs

Education and Experience:

  • At least 1 years of wiring experience
  • Reasonable written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others, possess an “easy going” attitude, and have good reliability
  • Able to work in our Port Coquitlam facility
  • Computer knowledge and proficient in use of MS Office Suite programs or similar
  • A BSEE or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years working in RPP (Remote Power Panel), PDU (Power Distribution Unit), or ICP (Industrial Control Panel) related fields
  • Red Seal Interprovincial Electrical Certification, 2-year electrical engineering diploma and /or equivalent
  • PLC/HMI programming and testing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of protective relay schemes an asset

Salary Range:

$23.00 - $26.00/hour (DOE)
