Purpose of Position

JOB SUMMARY:

The Field Service-SME-Switchgear Products Engineer will be specializing in power system distribution builds and system integration. This position serves as the subject matter expert on IEM’s custom repeatable Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Switchgear products from the field service perspective. This position will also provide technical software and hardware trouble shooting support to the IEM field service technicians on site to enhance the technical performance and knowledge of the field service team throughout North America. You will work closely with cross-functional IEM teams to integrate current and new technologies, optimize existing power systems, and ensure seamless operation across our power products related to the customer design and SOO. This technical SME- (Subject Matter Expert) role will be the point of contact for all field service personnel associated with startup, preventative maintenance, emergency call out support, customer support directly troubleshooting, assisting with commissioning pertaining to IEM medium/low voltage switchgear products, power breakers, protective relays and core IEM power products within our equipment. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Support field service technicians tasked with commissioning and troubleshooting of Switchgear Products.
  • Follows a scientific step-by-step process to troubleshoot equipment issues. Captures data and troubleshooting steps concisely and accurately to facilitate effective communication to internal and external parties.
  • Works directly with 3rd party equipment vendors to help resolve re-occurring issues with vendor equipment within IEM’s integrated products.
  • Communicate with Product Engineering and Design Teams with regards to important product bulletins that would affect service, software upgrades, product upgrades or maintenance factors.
  • Travel to customer sites to lead commissioning activities with junior techs/engineers or complete commissioning independently.
  • As required, travel to manufacturing or field service offices of IEM to participate in or lead training exercises, and to participate in factory witness/shop testing.
  • Assists with project start-up and resolving punch list items found at the jobsite.  Works with leads and site superintendents to update punch lists and ensure jobs are closed out.
  • Reports back issues to manufacturing facilities regarding whether quality control standards are upheld to project design criteria and product specifications.   Works with production, service and engineering teams to help resolve any deficiencies that are found.
  • Work with the Field Service Leads in scheduling additional field resources and/or teams to cover service needs.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

Design & Development Support:

  • Assist in development and the implementation of power system operations and customer deployment.  

Power System Integration:

  •  Lead and support the field service team on the integration of new power system technologies with existing power system infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and performance. 

System Optimization:

  •  Analyze system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability and scalability of existing power systems on customer sites. 

Troubleshooting & Support:

  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support to the IEM field service team and customers related to IEM power distribution products. Skills to address and resolve issues onsite and remotely in a timely manner. 

Project Management Skills:

  • Assist in managing complex MV and LV field service projects from concept through implementation, including scope definition, scheduling the technical resource allocation, parts procurement, system risk mitigation management, software setup and power configuration requirements. 
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for power products and systems, including design specifications and updates, user manuals, and operational procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage complex power distribution projects, have great technical and communication skills.

  • Work with engineering, IT, field service and production teams to ensure alignment of automation strategies with overall business goals and technical requirements.

  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in power products, technologies, power system designs, and proactively propose new solutions and improvements.  

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Power/automation programming languages and ladder logic (IEC, Python, Java, SQL, HTML)
  • Experience and proficient with industrial power system controls and monitoring technologies.
    • Communication Protocols-(Modbus/TCP, OPC, DNP3, ARP, IoT, DHCP, HTTP and IP)
    • Familiar and Experience with the TCP/IP suite
    • Experience with the utilization of Loop2k and Modscan 
    • Experience working with EPMS and BMS data center systems
    • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering documents, codes, standards and technical procedures
    • Experience with power system controls engineering, including ATO programming in PLC’s, Protective Relays and HMI’s
  •  Experience and proficiency with the below power products associated with the power distribution systems pertaining to Low Voltage, Medium Voltage switchgear, power breakers, power quality meters and protection relays.

  •  Strong technical ability related to verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  •  Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex power systems with field service personnel remotely or in person to resolve technical issues on a customer site. 

 

Education and Experience:

  • BSEE or MSEE
  • 4 years’ experience as an electrical engineer 
  • 4 years’ minimum experience working with power systems, including MV, LV switchgear, Protective relays and Power breakers
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License a Plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • A strong desire to grow and develop with a passion for providing excellent customer service

Salary Range: $55-$68/hourly
