SENIOR MECHANICAL STANDARDS ENGINEER - JACKSONVILLE, FL
Purpose of Position

Mechanical Standard Engineering encompasses a variety of engineering assignments such as planning, designing, modifying machinery, equipment, and products. It also involves coordinating activities internally and with other groups to effectively accomplish objectives requiring knowledge of associated functions and related engineering fields.

Under limited direction, this person will perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of a specific engineering discipline plus an understanding of related disciplines to cost-effectively achieve objectives; assignments typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques. This person will also proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions:

  • Strong proficiency working with CAD and PLM Tools (AutoCAD Mechanical, Revit, SmarTeam, SolidWorks, etc.) – the ideal candidate is proficient with utilizing both 2D and 3D SolidWorks technology.
  • Recent experience performing 3D solid modeling, 2D mechanical design, sheet metal modeling, and mechanical calculations.
  • Recent experience with engineering analysis such as FEA [Finite-Element Analysis], stress analysis, thermal analysis, etc. – experience working with steel plate strength analysis.
  • Experience working with product development projects in cross-functional teams – component design and systems design experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with GD&T per ASME Y14.5M and ISO 1101 standards.
  • Experience working under related industry standards: ANSI/IEEE, CSA, NEMA, UL, IEC etc.
  • Extensive experience reading and creating mechanical drawings.
  • Project Management responsibilities include periodic progress reports and project management of the new product design process.
  • Assess and review materials requirements and specifications, provide technical direction or consultation. Seek innovative materials that improve reliability, performance and reduce costs.
  • Provide technical support for production teams relating to standard products, primarily for data center or other repeatable applications.
  • Assist in defining and documenting new product development project specifications and scope based on input from IEM sales, engineering, and senior management.
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive project closeout documentation including product capabilities, limitations, and application details.
  • Review the design, analyze, and evaluate systems, products or components requiring a high degree of technical expertise.
  • Design and develop complex models or simulations, apply advanced computer programs, analytical techniques and/or control strategies to effectively meet requirements and resolve problems.
  • Act as the Principal Investigator and/or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing related recommendations and reports.
  • Technical input, recommendations and decisions may impact the organization's effectiveness and customer relations.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of a specific engineering discipline plus an understanding of related disciplines to coordinate activities, analyze or resolve problems crossing disciplines and to develop new concepts for Low and Medium Voltage Distribution Products.
  • Requires ability to interface effectively with other IEM development partners and non-IEM contractors for creation of key components for Low and Medium Voltage Distribution Products.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • BSME or equivalent in experience
  • Knowledge of UL / IEEE standards for various types of electrical equipment (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20, etc.)
  • Must be a team player with strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with precise attention to detail
  • Proficient with CAD software and Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarity with the NRTL evaluation and certification processes an asset.
  • 5-8 years of experience designing LV/MV Switchgear or Related Products
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (e.g. MSME). (preferred)
  • Experience working in a vertically integrated manufacturing facility. (preferred)
